And this year, Infosys got a million applications for 10,000 posts. What makes it the hot shot company it is? CEO Nandan Nilekani, who was in Delhi, talks to TOI about the people factor:</span><br /><br /><span style="" font-size:="" font-weight:="" bold="">What characterises Infosys the brand?</span><br /><br /><span style="" font-size:="" font-weight:="" bold="">There are many aspects. One, it stands for integrity, honesty, a value system and ethics. Then, it’s an aspirational brand for millions of young employees and for aspiring entrepreneurs, it’s an example of how you can have a bunch of young people without family history or money going on to make millions of dollars through sheer commitment and hard work. </span></div> <div align="left" style="position:relative; left: -6"><table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2" align="left" border="1" width="34.7%"> <colgroup> <col width="100.0%" /> </colgroup> <tr valign="top"> <td width="100.0%" colspan="1" rowspan="1" style="" valign:="" top="" background-color:=""> <div class="Normal"><span style="" color:="" ffffff="" font-size:="" font-weight:="" bold="">RELATED STORIES</span></div> </td> </tr> <tr valign="top"> <td width="100.0%" colspan="1" rowspan="1" style="" valign:="" top="" background-color:="" fbfbfb=""> <div class="Normal"><a href="http://www.thetimesofindia.online/articleshow/617747.cms" target="_blank">What next, Infy? I think what Infosys did was change conventional wisdom on many things. One, the notion that without money, you can’t be an entrepreneur. </span><br /><br /><span style="" font-size:="" font-weight:="" bold="">Also, the notion that you can’t do business without bending the rules. We went on to turn another notion on its head: That a company is all about its employers, not employees. From Day 1, we’ve had a huge focus on people and growth opportunities. I think it’s the whole work culture, the milieu, the intangible stuff. It’s all about people. And that’s why they want to be part of this dream.</span><br /><br /><span style="" font-size:="" font-weight:="" bold=""><formid=367815></formid=367815></span><br /><br /></div> </div><div class="section2"><div class="Normal"><script language="javascript">doweshowbellyad=0; </script></div> <div align="left" style="position:relative; left: -2"><table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2" align="left" border="1" width="32.1%"> <colgroup> <col width="100.0%" /> </colgroup> <tr valign="top"> <td width="100.0%" colspan="1" rowspan="1" style="" valign:="" top="" background-color:="" f3f3f3=""> <div class="Normal"><img src="/photo/624644.cms" alt="/photo/624644.cms" border="0" /></div> </td> </tr> <tr valign="top"> <td width="100.0%" colspan="1" rowspan="1" style="" valign:="" top="" background-color:="" f3f3f3=""> <div class="Normal"><span style="" font-size:="">Infosys chief Murthy (R with CEO Nandan M. Inside its offices, you could be anywhere in the world, but outside, it’s still a mess. It’s not enough to create isolated spots of excellence. The demonstration effect is very important: To take what we’ve learnt to a wider arena, to show how to build companies and how to run them.</span><br /><br /><span style="" font-size:="" font-weight:="" bold=""><formid=367815></formid=367815></span></div> </div>
